Hot melt adhesives, which are non-solvent formulations that become liquid upon heating, can be applied in molten form. The substrates must be joined in the open time to achieve good wetting. Hot melts have a rapid increase in internal strength upon cooling. They can be used to harden thermoplastic adhesives that are already in their final chemical form.
